Building a better digital world
As Des Moines based charity hackathon, dsmHack enters it's fifth year, Kate Hayden of the Business Record sat down with the hackathon's organizers to understand how dsmHack was founded and where the group would like to see it go.
Workiva (NYSE:WK) is a sponsor of dsmHACK, and also encourages its own developers to participate in the 48 hour event, which donates over $100,000 of services to 10 Iowa non-profit organizations annually.
Hayden reports that dsmHack accepts applications from 501(c)(3) organizations, and civic organization in need of technology support to complete projects that further the mission of their organizations. Ideally, the projects are those that can be completed in 48 hours. For example, developers built a volunteer hours tracking project for the Des Moines School District. A second was to create an online shopping platform for Iowa Public Radio, so sustaining members had another option to support the program by way of IPR store purchases.
dsmHack is being held at the Des Moines Social Club in downtown Des Moines, February 21-23, 2019.
