Hundreds of Internal Audit Hours Saved on SOX
This freight carrier was eager to upgrade technology when it started using Wdesk as not just a database but also a transparent testing tool for controls, with modern-day workflow and real-time collaboration.
With Wdesk, life has changed. Instead of handling quarterly certifications manually via email, the freight carrier handles it within Wdesk. It also tests controls, works with process owners collaboratively on narratives, and can conduct internal audit risk assessment surveys within Wdesk.
"Prior to using Wdesk, I probably spent 40 to 60 hours a quarter updating narratives. So there was a lot of follow-up, a lot of versions of Word® documents going back and forth to the process owners," the director of internal audit said. "I don't have to do that anymore."
Her team can send information requests and reminders directly from test forms in Wdesk, and users can attach supporting documentation to specific controls. They also can change attributes any time and have Wdesk automatically track what changed.
"It's got a great audit trail. It's very, very granular," she said.
With the power to control external auditors' access to Wdesk, the team no longer has to download hundreds of pieces of documentation to send them.
"We all have pressures to keep our headcount down, and we really wanted a tool with flexible workflow. We got that. We wanted a tool where the externals could go in and do their own thing, but we can control it, and we got that," the internal audit director said.
Overall, the internal audit director conservatively estimates Wdesk will help the team eliminate 400 to 500 hours of SOX work next year, essentially paying for the platform.
"We've had a very, very good response from our C-level executives on Wdesk," she said.
Why the company chose Wdesk:
- The cloud platform's mark-up capabilities, transparent revision history, and complete audit trail
- The attribute testing portion of Wdesk
- Support—in the customer's words, "I can't say enough good things about the customer service at Workiva."
