This curriculum combines all aspects of the prior WebFilings training programs and helps you work with informed confidence. WebFilings University offers four online XBRL courses designed to provide XBRL knowledge and experience for filing success. The four-course series (Series-1 beta released May 2012) collects the best of our knowledge and experience with thousands of XBRL filings. Topics have been selected specifically with your performance in mind.

Course 1 is an introduction to XBRL. After completing this course, you should know the basic reasons for using XBRL, special terms related to its capabilities and functions, and other essential knowledge that serve as a basis for understanding the subsequent courses in this series.

Course 2 covers the “why” and “how” on Wdesk solutions for applying tags to a financial report. After completing this training course the student should be able to initiate XBRL on a document; use XBRL tagging applications to detail tag within tables and narrative text; set the properties of individual or groups of XBRL facts; inspect, validate and revise their XBRL tagging work; and validate an XBRL filing. It also delves in the reasons why certain applications are needed by detailing the compliance and best practices that necessitate their use.

Course 3 covers the Wdesk approach for designing a high-quality XBRL filing. After completing this training course the student should have an improved capability for analyzing their external reports with the objective of representing them with the US GAAP taxonomy; make better informed choices for elements from the US GAAP taxonomy, and be able to document the reasons for these choices for the benefit of colleagues and management.

Course 4 covers the applications and techniques for reviewing an XBRL filing. After completing this training course the student should be better equipped to reliably and predictably maintain quality control through document editing an into live filing.
