On October 7, WebFilings customers began using the latest version of the industry-leading Wdesk External Reporting Solution
. Version 2.5 features greatly enhanced permission and audit controls and many other new features WebFilings customers have been asking for. Highlights from the permissions-related improvements include:
- The ability for administrators to prevent users from accessing specific document sections. Using this feature, a user can have full capabilities in every other section but will be unable to see the section(s) they don't have permission to.
- The advanced permissions editor, which displays all of a document permissions in an easy to understand matrix and allows for permission changes to be made quickly and accurately at the section and user level.
- The ability to create, edit and use permission sets, which allow for a group of permissions to be saved and applied to multiple documents, users or user groups.
Audit control has been enhanced, allowing users with proper permissions to turn track changes off per document section. For example, if the document owner is the only person with permission to edit the document except for the MD&A sections, they can turn on track changes just for the MD&A sections ensuring they are able to approve or reject any changes made by others without having to approve or reject changes they made in the rest of the document. The integrated comment system was substantially improved with the addition of comment filtering. Comment filters can be applied based on the user who made the comment, the time the comment was made, the status of the comment (open or closed), or any combination of the three. As with any Wdesk release, there are enhancements including the addition of forms 10-D and FWP, the ability to display non-printing characters such as paragraph symbols, spaces, tabs and non-breaking spaces, and many others. Current WebFilings customers can learn more about the October 2011 release by accessing the release notes page of the Wdesk help site and/or attend the 2.5 release overview webinar the week of October 10.
